Education
Education is key to ensuring the next generation can access the opportunities that will enable them to move beyond their current circumstances. We focus on foundational education programmes that are centred around biblical principles and God’s word.
We believe that every child deserves to have access to quality educational opportunities. In South Africa’s impoverished communities, many children become lost in an education system that is stretched beyond capacity. And, with education being one of life’s key building blocks, those lost simply remain trapped in a continuous cycle of poverty and hopelessness.
That is why we invest heavily in foundational education programmes that ensure children in our care have the best possible start. These programmes use a Christian-based curriculum as we believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate teacher.
Early Childhood Development (ECD) Learning Centres
We have established a total of five Early Childhood Development (ECD) Learning Centres in the neediest areas of George. One of these centres is a full day care facility, which caters for 140 children throughout the week. The other 2 centres are registered with the Department of Social Development as Crèches (ECD Centres) and two are informal ECD centres; offering critical care at no charge to children between the ages of 3-5.
Our curriculum is based on Christian principles. Therefore we teach the Bible and introduce children to Jesus as their Saviour from an early age. We take a holistic approach; providing a quality education that meets the criteria of the Department of Education and Social Development. However, we also include additional extracurricular activities for children, parents and staff.
The Lighthouse After School and Education Centre
Many children attending school have no support base at home and require additional assistance with their schoolwork. They are often struggling in key areas such as Math and Literacy, as well as basic life-skills, including communication and building relationships. The Lighthouse provides a safe environment where children can come after school, and benefit from the necessary support in all the above areas of their education. They also receive a nourishing meal and participate in Bible study and discipleship.
LIFE Christian Academy
Following the success of our Happy Feet Learning Centres and our Grade R (Kindergarten) programmes, we realised there was a need to improve educational opportunities for all age groups. The goal of LIFE Christian Academy is to provide quality foundational primary and, in the future, secondary education.
Through the Academy, students will gain knowledge, acquire the ability to critically engage, and learn the importance of accountability. The foundation of our curriculum is the moral and Godly principles in the Word.
